Pro-Life, Pro-Obama

Not to distract from the riveting Palin, but check out the new link under "politics and religion" on the sidebar. Matthew 25 Network has launched the site. Also, I've entered a quote from the home page on Ameritocracy.com, which you'll find on the widget; if you want to vote on accuracy/relevance just click on the link below it to get to ameritocracy & sign up.

I'm sure you and your bloggers will flush me down the toilet and brand me as a who knows what..but after studying the stances taken by McCain and Obama, I don't see how anyone could conscientiously vote for Obama. I've always voted for "the man" and not the ticket...McCain isn't by far the best offered but he's certainly the lesser of two evils. If we want a Socialist country, we will have it with Obama. I realize how magnetic the "change" idea is ~ he's an extremely eloquent speaker...but we should take a very hard look at where he plans to lead us..our future depends on it.

The media has a field day w/Palin...so she's cutesy and folksy...and a beauty contestant...after all, there are still a few, cutesy, folksy people scattered around...she's still a Governor and you don't get there by being a dingbat. Give her some credit. McCain's a war hero and some say that's all he is...Obama came out of the dirty politics of Chicago...this has been a very nasty campaign and it's such a detriment to our society that we've reduced ourselves to groveling in mud. This campaign has been drawn out for much too long...everyone is angry. Anger doesn't get us anywhere...anywhere at all (at least in my book). All I can say is that I care very much what happens to all of us. Very Much and I plan to vote very carefully.

Michael and I are off for Qingdao China tomorrow Jtb to pump up a small group of friends meeting regularly...be there 22 days...we'll be more refreshed than they, I'm sure. We're totally "spirit-led" and very happy in that state...we've so many wonderful Chinese friends! (They don't care about American politics, thank God...) We're visiting them twice a year...it's a very exciting time. We'll be back in time to vote...way to go! I have a blog at http://vascawho.blogspot.com.
It's very simplistic..."Is it so difficult?" (Doing whatever)...

ATTN: all readers. No one is allowed to flush anyone down the toilet. Especially not Vasca.

Well, in reply, all I can say is that it's pretty obvious from this blog that I do indeed think it's possible to conscientiously vote for Obama. And that's my intent.

I've always found Chinese students very interested in American politics...back in 1998 a very unprepared college grad (me) suddenly found herself the spokesperson on everything from Lewinsky to embassy bombings. Ugh! But it was the beginning of my wake-up call that these things can't just be comfortably ignored; the people we elect make decisions with consequences that reverberate around the world, in ways that really matter--my experiences in China taught me that.

Of course, I know your intent...I respect that. The Chinese are increasingly more immersed in their own problems (which are too numerous to mention) and true, they are somewhat interested in our political climate. I mis-stated my view earlier. We lived there for some time and were totally involved ~ trying not to be overly critical of either country or government (I'm listening/watching Boston Legal and tend to get carried away...mad cow disease). Purely objective. We went w/you and Brent in August 2002 and returned home in Dec. 2004...lots of interaction with very intelligent contacts...interesting and mind broadening, as well. Understanding is difficult to come by..I think. It seems to boil down to "I think"..."You think"..."They think"...and the truth is, we all think differently. So goes life...in or out of the toilet. Hmmm~Michael is packing our laptop...see ya' from China...taking the pulse of the land.

I have two friends (one in TN and one in TX) who have worked/still work for Christian non-profit organizations helping women who are pregnant who were not trying to get pregnant. I also have one friend (in TX) who worked for a community non-profit organization who helped pregnant women. These women are my greatest assets in knowing what really happens and takes place in the lives of women who are looking into their options. The stories, both great and sad, are too numerous to count. These friends have all agreed (independently of the others) that Obama's platform will prevent more abortions than McCain's. That alone speaks volumes to me, especially after hearing so many of the stories. If education, information and resources were easily available (as stated in Obama's platform) then not only would less people get pregnant in the first place, but those who did get pregnant would have resources available to them to keep their child and raise it, or an easier adoption process. These are real reasons why women have abortions. Those are the issues that need to address.

And for anyone who believes McCain's lie from the Saddleback interview where he stated he had a 25 year record of opposing abortion...check his record! In October of 1999 he voted against a ban on partial birth abortions. (Which in most people's mind is the worst abortion possible.) When interviewed in December of 1999 about the vote he said he didn't want women seeking illegal operations. And if my math is still in tack, that's within his 25 year record. And if my brain is still in tack, that's not opposing abortion.

My only personal suggestion about who to vote for would be for each of us to do research first on the issues, so we know what everything is and to form a personal opinion as to where you stand. Then research the candidates. Listen to speeches, look at records, read everything you can. Then look at the whole picture (everything put together to make sure it all fits together and would work together), and select who you would like representing you in the white house.

Jen, good link!
