So, tonight I made a vegetable curry and got out my "Extending the Table" cookbook to make chapati, and noticed, not for the first time, the anecdote on the bottom of the page. (See picture.) this time, however, I though, "this is why we need birth control."
Not (just) because we ought to be in charge of our own bodies. But because we are also in charge of theirs.

I think everyone who wants birth control ought to have access to it. I can't imagine being in a position where starving one of my children seemed like a solution. But there are so many other problems here, besides lack of access to birth control. Stepping in at birth control seems a little...late, you know? Even if they hadn't had their fourth (or third) child, it is unlikely they would have enough to eat.
I love that cookbook. Love it.
