for baby

Here's some of what I've been doing over the past few months to avoid schoolwork. The thing on the left is one of three baby carrier slings (free pattern here!) I've made over the past few weeks (thanks to BC for the fabulous African fabrics!) The diaper bag I made out of bathroom curtain remnants and a pair of khakis Brent was throwing out, right at the height of my comps anxiety back in February (thanks to a Simplicity pattern inherited from Priscilla). The little vest and booties I knitted out of yarn leftover from the fruity hat project for Em's wedding. And the teddy bear--my favorite--is also knitted out of leftover yarn from the fruity hats (pattern here: thanks to Brian for leading me to Knitty!)

Here's a close-up of the teddy bear:

And this one shall be called,
"Bear with cat on sock (in chair)."

Finally, here is the sweater I knitted, from a pattern in Yarn Girls Guide to Kid Knits (thanks Mom!). It's not finished yet, obviously, but isn't it so...happy looking?

I'm not trying to take anything away from the sweater, but when I first saw it, I thought, "Wow, someone has captured, in yarn, the precise pattern that is formed on my hand when I buy a quarter's worth of Skittles from a vending machine at the Pizza Hut on Ambler and then walk around in the 101 degree Abilene heat."

It's quite pretty, and I love Skittles, so please don't take that as a non-compliment.

The yarn color is actually called, "Snoopy's Crayons," but I shall hereafter refer to it as "Greg's sweaty melted Skittles."

Ahhhh, that's so sweet! Your baby will be very touched to see all the time and tender care that's been put into her arrival.

It's happened again! Anytime I pass on knowledge or skill (knitting), someone takes that knowledge/skill and surpasses the teacher! (i.e. Dad and racketball) These are wonderful things you've made! I'm especially impressed with the diaper bag from this and that! My mom would be so proud to have a granddaughter who uses what she has available to create beautiful things. She was so like that. I love the bear, by the way. I would never in a million years have attempted it! You're amazing!!

Love it.

Mostly, I just read Knitty, look at the pictures and think, "someday I'm totally going make that!" But you actually made something...

Holy freaking cow Jen! I am very jealous of your domestic skills. Lucky lucky baby. One day you can make me that sakura scarf thing and I will smile.
